HORSE TRANSFORMATION
| In over 30 years of training and re-training
horses of every type and description, I have come across a vast variety
of problem behaviours. I'd like to say I'd seen it all, but there
is always a surprise waiting round the next corner!
I call what I do "horse transformation" because what comes out of the re-training process is a completely different horse or pony. Where once there were problems and difficulties, you now have a horse who does what you want and is easy to ride and/or handle. Here are a few of my best transformations ... |

<< Shannon:
6 years
old. 15hh mare. This mare was so angry about the way she was
trained for jumping,
it caused her to buck and rear ferociously.
Shown here on the road to recovery. Notice her long, easy leap over a very small obstacle. The lack of wings to keep her on track shows her complete willingness to do what is wanted. >> |

<< Merlin:
10 years
old. 16hh gelding. Merlin had problems with just about
everything, but above all was extremely fearful of having his ears touched
which made him difficult to bridle.
Shown here later as a completely different horse. No longer worried about being touched around the ears, bridling became another stress-free procedure. >> |
|
| << Merlin again.
As I said, Merlin was angry, nervous or fearful of just about everything. Almost
anything he was asked to do caused a strong, sometimes violent reaction.
Shown here as a much more obliging horse. Although heavy on the forehand, notice the long, easy stride and relaxed, comfortable rider. Polishing up his way of going comes later. >> |

<< Pudsie:
6
years old. 13.2hh mare. You wouldn't think it to look
at her, but this pony was about the most nervous and fearful I have trained,
spooking at the most surprising things, running backwards at speed and
bolting. The last thing you want for a child's riding pony.
Shown here fully 'cured', taking a young, child rider for a pleasant canter along the beach. >> |
