What can I do for you?

Presumably, you have come to this site because you have a problem with your horse and are looking for the answer.  What I can do for you is provide you with the answer you are looking for.

In my experience, what most people need is a few words of advice to point them in the right direction.  When you have the right answer, the rest is usually just a matter of patience and perseverance, although sometimes, you can be lucky and a miracle happens overnight.  Don't count on it though.  Changing behaviour usually takes time.

If you would like to drop me an email and tell me what the problem is, I will send you the quickest, easiest solution to the problem you have with your horse.

There are a few things I need to know, such as - how long you've had the horse, his age, breed or type, where you bought him from (ie, a private sale or dealer) and when the problem started.  For how long the problem has been going on.  Any background information you have can also be useful.

For example:

I bought a 17yr old Bay  Mare, 15.2hh in the summer, I was told by the owner than she was strong in the mouth but that is all.

However since buying her she has proved very difficult while out hacking, When we first set out she is very easy but as we get nearer home on the return journey she begins playing up, it starts with tossing her head and snorting the she starts to jog, constantly pulling on the reins. If I try to get her back into a walk or get her to stand to calm down she becomes angry and paws the ground and tries to canter 'On the Spot!'.

I have tried giving her a loose rein and letting her speed walk home, turning her away from home she walks perfectly again and as soon as i turn for home this all starts again. She becomes more and more frustrated, sweating and trying to tank off with me.

Everything else with her is almost perfect, she has lovely manners in the stable, getting shod, the dentist etc. If I do canter she does sometimes tank off and can be hard to stop but I'm getting to read the signs before this happens.

I have had someone out to ride her who deals with problem horses, this chap is an ex jockey and he suggested that I may have myself a re branded ex racehorse. However I didn't continue with this chap as she made no improvement with him at all.

She carries her head all wrong and the muscles in her neck are very developed underneath if you understand me. I cannot get her to become round at all, please i would love some advice as i have listened to a lot of 'advice' and have got nowhere. She is wearing a hang cheek snaffle with a flash band bridle, I also use a martingale.

You can email me from here:  Ruth@horse-talk.org  I look forward to hearing from you.
