The answer is in the basic training - or lack of it!

Once upon a time, horses were seen as gentle and placid.  Anyone could ride more or less any horse.  Nowadays, they are more like monsters, considered dangerous at both ends - and in the middle!

So what has gone so horribly wrong, not only with your horse, but the thousands of others whose owners and riders visit this site?

What has changed the horse from a gentle friend and willing slave to one with more problems between them than we can count?

Why are there so many accidents?  Why are so many people (and their horses) getting hurt?

"No horse is born bad, he is made bad!"

All over this country and beyond, horses are being made bad.  They are turning into monsters, not through any fault of their owner/rider, but due to the lack of appropriate training.

It is we, the owners and riders who are left to pick up the pieces.

IS THIS RIGHT?

Given the right basic training, all horses are uniformly safe and reliable.  It is the basic nature of the horse.

Who is responsible?  The BHS (British Horse Society) is the governing body and only recognised equestrian authority.  They are God.  What they say goes, but they are barking right up the wrong tree.

They are oblivious to the damage they do and how they do it.  Their efforts at promoting greater safety stop at body armour, when it is the actual teaching and training methods they promote which are so blatantly at fault.

They have a responsibility to give us (and our horses) the education we need.  They are failing miserably.

What can you do?  Support the call for a "School of Pleasure Riding" to provide appropriate training for both horse and rider.  When all horses and riders are trained the same way, interchange between horses and riders becomes easy - and problem-free!
